St James Cathedral is widely acknowledged as an important building in Townsville and is a major landmark on Melton Hill, being seen from many places around the city. 
Explore its artwork and learn about its interesting 134 year history. 

A WEEKEND OF MUSIC AND ART August 1st - 2nd

Celebrate Creativity in the Heart of the City

This vibrant event is designed to encourage visitors to explore the Cathedral and its beautiful gardens, whilst enjoying live performances and artistic displays throughout the day.

Artists will be creating and showcasing their work both inside the Cathedral and around the gardens, offering a unique opportunity to witness art in progress.

Musical highlights include soloists and small ensembles, providing a delightful soundtrack for your visit.

All are welcome—come along for a relaxing day filled with music, art, and community spirit.

Talented a cappella singer and recorder player will perform a variety of pieces with "Love Music ' as a theme

Rumi has loved singing in the  Cathedral since the late 1990s

 NQ Corallium Choir 

12 noon

A Townsville-based chamber choir, specialising in early music (i.e. music from the medieval, renaissance and early baroque periods).

Cathedral Organ

 The original organ, built by Brindley & Foster of Sheffield England, was a gift to the Diocese of North Queensland from Miss M.E. Holland. It was originally installed in St James’ Church in 1884. This was a two manual (2 keyboards) and pedal instrument of ten stops and it was installed by Mr. T. C. Christmas of Brisbane.
